At 9:07 a.m., David opened the meeting with prayer, followed by grouping.

Present were: David vanEsselstyn, Lay Director; Fay Cochran, Region 7 Rep.; Alice Lees, Region 13 Rep.; Lydia Robillard, newsletter volunteer; Elaine Kallio, Team Caller; Fr. Roger Robillard, Spiritual Companion, and Connie Smith, Secretary.

Minutes of the March meeting were not yet available.

Spiritual Companion’s Time. Fr. Roger presented on the Gospel of the Feeding of the Five Thousand. He made many good points, such as that we all need to work on inner peace which we find in spending time alone with the Creator. He also shared a fact: that the state determines how many prison cells it will need in ten (10) years based on the number of people who cannot read by the end of the fourth grade. 98% of that population will end up in prison. He advocates the Church getting involved in literacy programs. He also reported, sadly, that he was not able to address Cursillo at the Clergy and Spouse Conference at Shrine Mont; all discussion time was taken up with the issues now facing the Episcopal Church.

Community Weekend Update. David vanEsselstyn reported that attendance was smaller than anticipated (20 rather than 50), but the weekend was well worth holding. The Community may even want to do another one in the future. Some Ultreyas have been galvanized (there was a very positive email message from John Myles) and new team applications submitted. As discussions continue, David would like to consider a co-ed/same sex weekend in which Rollos and table discussions are held in same sex groups, but the whole group would come together for worship. This will be taken up in the future.

Report on Weekend #128. For Weekend #128, October 14 – 16 at Front Royal, Rector is Anne Ferranti; Assistant Rector is Elaine Kallio; Head Cha is John Ferranti, and Music Director is Jenny Tenney. The Weekend still needs an assistant music director and Spiritual Directors. Fr. Robillard took down a number of names and will make the calls.

Assistant Lay Director’s Report (in absentia). John Symonds' main concern was the newsletter. The next issue, to come out in August, should focus on upcoming Weekend #128 and should also include articles from the Lay Director, a description of the "state wide web," a piece on sponsorship, an article about better communication, and emphasis on Fourth Day activities such as Ultreyas and Prayer and Praise services. Alice Lees seconded these suggestions. She will do the layout; she awaits input. She received a photo disk from David of pictures from the Community Weekend.

ECLW. The Diocese of Washington DC is hosting an Episcopal Leaders' Workshop in Cursillo at the Bishop Claggett Conference Center in Buckeystown, MD on September 24-26, 2004. Lydia Robillard underscored the importance of this event and urged participation.

Newsletter. Alice Lees reconfirmed some of John's suggestions and added others. She would like to see a Lay Director's letter, a Spiritual Director's letter, a piece on sponshorship, a report on the Community Weekend, a plan for the Servant Community, and a Team List, among other articles. She thinks it is important that a copy should go to the national office and one to each parish in the Diocese.

Summer Meeting Dates. The June meeting is cancelled. The July meeting will take place on Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. in Faulkner Hall at St. George's Episcopal Church. The August meeting will take place on the 21st at the home of John Symonds.

Father Robillard led the Secretariat in closing prayer. The meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Constance Fletcher Smith
Secretary
